Lori Anne Pinette Memorial Piano Scholarship

Named for Oak Grove-Coburn School alumna Lori Anne Pinette [1958-2016], the Lori Anne Pinette Memorial Piano Scholarship is awarded annually to an Erskine Academy student for private piano instruction.

Although an applicant’s talent and ability may be considered, this scholarship is principally based on financial need. This opportunity is provided to those who would most benefit from private piano instruction but might not otherwise receive such due to financial circumstances. Additional criteria, such as grades or similar conditions, will not be considered when appraising applicants and granting the award.

The recipient will be selected by Erskine Academy’s music director in consultation with the headmaster and other school employees, as advisable.

The scholarship will provide for weekly private lessons during the course of the school year at Erskine Academy.

At the close of the school year, the recipient will give a public recital of works selected by the recipient and the piano instructor in honor of Lori Anne Pinette.

Should the recipient not be able to continue the instruction for any reason, the remainder of the scholarship will be held over to the start of the new school year.

Erskine Academy shall administer this scholarship and ensures the above terms are met.

About Lori Anne Pinette

Born and raised in South China, Maine, Lori Anne Pinette [1958-2016] was a gifted pianist and musician. She attended Oak Grove-Coburn School in Vassalboro and graduated in 1977. She retained her love of music and performed in various venues in Maine throughout her life. Lori unexpectedly died of a brain tumor in August of 2016. The Lori Anne Pinette Memorial Piano Scholarship was established by her friends and family to honor her creative legacy and to continue her love of music in her home town and central Maine.

About Oak Grove-Coburn School

Until it closing in 1989, Oak Grove-Coburn School served as both a traditional New England preparatory school and a town academy for the communities of central Maine. Along with Erskine Academy, Oak Grove-Coburn provided a unique educational choice to the families of this region. A merger of two schools, Oak Grove School for girls and Coburn Classical Institute, Oak Grove-Coburn’s campus in Vassalboro included the distinctive castle-like building which is now the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. Many of the students who might have gone to Oak Grove-Coburn had it remained open now attend its sister school Erskine Academy, and it is for this reason that the Lori Pinette piano scholarship has been established at Erskine Academy.
